Fighting Fires
Last night our Community Center did a Fire Safety and Emergency activity. It sounded like fun so we went!
When we got there, there were only 2 other families so Miss Fab had lots to choose from without having to wait in line. She chose face painting. The girl told her to close her eyes and this is the face she made. The community center has a teen program and the teens were the ones that did the face painting.
MF wanted to be a princess. It is supposed to be like a crown with a diamond hanging down in the middle. That's what MF told me anyway.
This little fire truck was remote controlled, so it kept following kids around. The guy hid when the kids came around so they just thought the truck was moving on its own. They loved it!
Bean bag toss. They were supposed to get the bean bags in the cans that had pictures of fire starters on the front. MF got the concept but when the cans are as high as your head, its tough to get them in the can.
They had Safety ID tags there for the kids. They were very fast about it...the only thing, MF had her face painted first, which means her picture for her ID tag has her painted face on it!
Practicing fire drills. The Fireman was holding a fire alarm and when the kids would lay down to pretend they were asleep he would make it beep. The kids then would wake up, crawl to the door, feel the door to see if it was hot (apparently it was), and then...
climb out the window. The firemen commented on how MF acted like she climbed out of windows all the time. She was fast!
In the big fire truck. There were so many firemen (meaning men and women) around and they did lots of one on one (or two) explaining to the kids. They turned on the headsets so MF and the boy she's sitting by could talk to each other. Despite the goofy face, she was having a fun time.
In the driver's seat.
Taking her turn putting out a fire. The fireman asked her some questions and then...
She got to put a fire out! They had to pull the pin, get the hose out, and put out the fire.
And no event in Hawaii is complete without a bounce house. We stopped there just before we headed home so MF could get all left over energy out. The fireman helping there commented on how much energy she had! Oh, I know. I know.
