Thankful Thursday - #4
This week I'm thankful for the US Coast Guard. They save many lives, clean up oil spills, help in natural disasters, intercept drugs being smuggled in, inspect boats to make sure everything is safe, and more. Their motto Semper Paratus means Always Ready. The Coast Guard is also family friendly...as far as military can go. They can be deployed, but it is on a voluntary basis.
"Founded by Alexander Hamilton as the Revenue Cutter Service on August 4, 1790, it lays claim to being the United States' oldest continuous seagoing service. As of October 2006, the Coast Guard has approximately 46,000 men and women on active duty, 8,100 reservists, 7,000 full time civilian employees and 30,000 active auxiliarists."
