The House
We are in the house. We have been living here for just over a week. Our furniture and all of our things should be here on Monday. I'm posting pictures of the house in the state it is in now. If I wait for it to be clean, the pictures may never be taken or posted. So here it is, in its "natural" state.
This is a prime example of the entire basement and garage. Although I think the garage may have been worse. I haven't been in there. Ever since John came in and told me about the huge amounts of black widows, I am not sure I will ever go in there. The amount of mold and bugs in the basement is gross, we are combining our efforts with Bleach to kill the mold and have borrowed a shop-vac for the bugs.
The Living area. Cute little Star in the corner. I started painting the wall, but I'm afraid it looks a little pinkish to me. I'm really hoping it will be okay when its done and the furniture is in there. We have to get approval on the colors before we can paint and this was the darkest "brown" they would let me have.
The other half of the Living area and also the Dining area. Not sure how Miss Fab is able to play the DS in that position, but whatever. And there goes Star trying to reach the buttons on the DVD player.
The front entry with coat closet. It will be a new thing for me to actually use a coat closet for coats.
The hallway. The door on the right goes down to the basement. The laundry basket seems to get stuck right outside the door...mostly because by the time we get up the stairs from down there, we are doing a get the bugs off me dance.
Our one bathroom. Every time I thought of having one bathroom, I thought of my friend Heff and how she has 6 kids and one on the way...and they only have one bathroom. If she can do it, so can I.
Star's room. We let Miss Fab pick her room and she picked the bigger of the two. That's fine. If we have another baby while we are here, she's going to have to share with Star.
Miss Fab's room. Already a mess. I really like the windows in this room. One lower one so she can see out if she wants and two to let the light in.
The kitchen. I'm skipping the master bedroom. More of the same of what is in the girls rooms but an even bigger mess since all the extra luggage and things got deposited in there. Anyway. The floor in the kitchen is disgusting. I have plans to take some heavy cleaner and a scrubbing pad to it tomorrow. I may have to use goo-gone in some places.
I'll be getting to know a gas stove/oven again and getting along without a garbage disposal. I DO like that there are windows above the sink instead of a solid wall. I'm thinking of putting a smallish shelf there to grow some herbs.
The view of the Living/Dining area from the kitchen. Can't wait until its done!
Half of the basement. See the black all over the walls? There are also lots of cables and wires hanging from the unfinished ceiling. Around the water heater to the right is where the washer and dryer are. I wish they were a little closer to the stairs!
From the back of the basement. There's an ugly reddish brown paint on the floor and a stripe of it on the wall. Mixed with the dark gray, it doesn't give off a very happy feeling. Miss Fabulous LOVES the chalk board down there and I want to get it cleaned up and somewhat finished off so I can use it as a craft/rec room. We are debating on putting fabric up to cover the ceiling or just taking the expense and finishing the ceiling. Either way, we have to get permission and have the possibility of having to take it down when we leave. There was obviously a wall separating the red area from the grey, along with a sliding door. It was taken out, probably because housing didn't want it there...or the people didn't have permission.
The house isn't in too bad of condition for not having anyone live in it for over 2 years. It could have been worse...we saw those houses too. Tomorrow we are having a painting party and then going to the county fair. Its finally sunny today after a week of rain and gloom. Maybe we'll have to get out of the house and take a walk. We are looking forward to Monday and lots of boxes...we hope!

When I was a kid, we had a basement with a cement floor and we used to roller skate around it. It was great fun. Our stairs came down the middle, and we could skate in circles around it.
