Lately
As with any move, things are getting extra busy now that we are in our final weeks. Today we ship off our car so it will be waiting for us when we get to L.A. We also have someone coming to pre-inspect our house to get a general idea of what the house will need after we move away. I'm hoping we have caused minimal damage. I know there are a few spots on the walls where I will need to cover up some blue paint that is still faintly visible after Fae decided to "dry off" her paint brush. The other things I know will need fixing have nothing to do with us...cracks in the walls from the house settling, crack in the wood flooring due to a rock or something underneath it, slight water damage in a bathroom due to a poor caulking job. Mostly that's it. We'll see what they find. I'm not too worried.
Because we are shipping off our car today, we had to make sure it has less than a quarter tank of gas. On Thursday it had nearly a full tank. SO we drove the beast all over the island. Saturday we drove up to Hale'iwa for some excellent Summer Rolls and Curry at Hale'iwa Eats Thai and then walked over to Matsumotos to ignore the shave ice and get a t-shirt...something we've been meaning to do for a while. Get a t-shirt, that is, not ignore the shave ice. I think we will be heading up there one last time in the next 2 weeks before we leave just because we can.
Sunday we drove out as far west (and then North?) as we could. I haven't been much farther than Ko Olina. John hadn't been farther than a certain golf course (the name escapes me right now) out there. We enjoyed the drive, but there are a LOT of "homeless" out there. I put homeless in quotes because clearly their tents were their homes. Its hard to describe but the only thing I can compare it to are some of the "houses" in northern Mexico. Where you can't really call it a house because it resembles more of a make-shift shack but to them it is a house and every other house around it is the same. This was similar. Many tents with lots of "stuff" around the tent as if it was a mini junkyard. Anyway, we drove out as far as we could and, had it not been raining for so long, we might have ventured out on the dirt road. But it had and so we didn't. We got out and played on the beach for a little bit until Miss Fabulous was soaked from her ribs on down, Star was sandy from head to toe, and John was tired of being not being in the air conditioning. I...well...I had a wet bum from sitting on a rock but was loving the perfect lighting for some pictures.
Anyway, here are a very few random pictures:
Miss Fabulous stopped making soup long enough for me to take a few pictures.
A bag I have been meaning to make for my friend, Katy, for the last 6 months. Yay! Its done!
The outside of the bag.
A picture from the Kokua Festival. I'll put some more pictures on later after I load them. They are on MF's camera.

So things are speeding up for us, preparations are in full swing, and plans are being finalized for our big move. We are nervous, somewhat sad, but also very excited. We will miss this island we've called home for the last 4 years.
