Getting started

Things have been pretty crazy since I was last able to connect to the internet.
On Monday (the 17th), I posted on FB and then we disconnected ourselves from the internet in order to let the movers come in and pack everything. Up to that point, we had sorted and boxed and thrown away and given away so much stuff that we were happy to just sit by and let them pack everything. John had taken apart any furniture that could be dismantled, disconnected all electronics and zip-tied them all, removed all pictures, etc. from the walls and patched any large-ish holes, and had organized and cleaned the garage and yard. I had sorted fabric, toys, bathroom products, clothes, bedding, and decor. We had set aside what we were taking with us on the plane and were ready to be on our way.
The packers came in around 10 a.m., looked around, and were impressed with our work. They told us that because everything was pretty much done for them, they could be in and out in one day. They worked all day, put in an extra hour or so and had us packed up completely by 7 p.m. I ran errands, returning the modem to the cable company (sniff, sniff), getting pizza for the guys, hitting up Target, and then wasting time with Star at a few other stores.
After our things were gone and the house was empty, we discovered that the packers had missed a few things and were sad to see that we'd have do part with a few things that we had not planned to part with. They weren't very important, easily replaceable, but an unnecessary expense.
My visiting teachers brought by dinner (thanks girls!) and we had a picnic on the floor. Miss Fabulous was more than excited. We had told her that after we left Hawaii, we'd be stopping at Disneyland. Having an empty house is a definite sign of moving and we are getting questions of when will it be time to go to Disneyland just about every hour.
Tuesday we sent MF off to school, handed Star off to friends (thanks Jen and Caryn!), and got to work scrubbing the house from top to bottom. It went fairly well. Inspection was at 1 p.m. and when she came, I was a little disappointed that she didn't take longer. From my view, we possibly didn't need to do nearly as much work as we did. I'm happy that there were no charges and the lady was really impressed with our job on the walls. I will forever be a fan of Magic Eraser.
We packed up our bags (7 large pieces, 4 carry-ons, and 4 "personal items") and realized that with the bags in the car, there wasn't any room for our girls. So we quickly checked into the hotel in Waikiki, unloaded the bags, showered, and ran back to get the girls before 3. We found, upon check-in, that we had been upgraded to a full ocean view room and have been enjoying the relaxation time...as long as that lasts.
Today, MF and I have dentist appointments at 8, swing by the school to pick up MF's records and report card, go to John's work for his award and farewell, run several last-minute errands, and try to keep little Star happy all the while. I think all the moving around and upset of schedule is having an effect on the little girl. I just hope she gets used to things soon...I need sleep.
Anyway. I'll try to post pictures as we go along. I didn't get the chance to hook everything up since I'm using the internet in the lobby of the hotel (it was 5 a.m. and the rest of the family was asleep). If you'd like a postcard on our journey, please let me know...and if I don't have your address please send it to me! I hope to be back on in a few days! Until then...
