True Story
I have to tell this story because...well, because.
So yesterday was a typical morning in our house only it was the day after daylight saving time so we were all dragging a little still. I let Miss Fabulous sleep in a little more than usual, but had things in full swing and under control to offset her morning slowness. She got up, dressed, had some cereal, we got her hair done, and then checked the school menu to see what she was going to have for lunch. Meatball subs. Yay. Not.
We started throwing food together. MF LOVES burritos and requested one, so the two of us rolled up a tortilla in foil, heated some beans from two nights before, grated cheese, and added a few other things to make a complete lunch. Still, we were doing really well on time.
I checked her backpack for stowaway toys, found some, so I made her take a more "boring" backpack. Made sure everything was in it and ready. She got on her coat. I told her to run, because at that point she was 2 minutes later than normal getting out the door. It was 8:14. I watched her run all the way to the bus stop and then went back to getting Star and Dash ready for the day.
I did dishes, got myself ready, went back and forth to the computer a few times, listened to music, etc. 9:04 (by the computer clock) my friend on the next street over PMs me to tell me Miss Fabulous is still sitting at the bus stop and she will tell her to go home. I thank her and wait for MF to walk in the door. By this time I'm thinking, "WHY did she wait so long?" and "Man! That bus keeps getting more and more early!!!"
MF walks in the door.
Me: What happened?
MF: The bus never came!
Me: How long were you planning on waiting? You were out there for a long time!
MF: I know! I had already planned to save some of my lunch so I could eat it for dinner if I needed it.
She was ready to sit out there all night waiting for that bus! I asked her if she would have come home when her friends got off the bus in the afternoon and she said she hadn't thought of that. I don't think it even occurred to her that she was too late for the bus, only that it hadn't come. I talked to the ladies in the school office about how early (and sometimes late!) the bus comes. As early as 8:11 and as late as 8:30! That's a big window! I just have to make sure she is out there extra early.
