Day 2 - Closets

Closets. Love 'em. Can't stand 'em. After working on one closet and fighting off the 1 & 2 year olds, I opted for just the 3 main closets for today. The bedroom closets aren't TOO bad so I'll do those when I concentrate on each bedroom.
We have 3 shared closets, not including the bathroom closet. I'm positive we aren't using them as their intended purpose. I don't care.
Closet #1: The movie closet. This is in the main entry and had a rod and hooks in it. Probably for coats and shoes (which would be nice) but we have so many movies, we have the entire closet dedicated to them.

So these are the "before" pictures. Sorta. I had already started clearing off the top shelf when I remembered I hadn't taken any pictures yet.

The "after" pictures aren't that great. Less lighting, etc. Plus I had to take the pictures in a hurry before Star and Dash got over there to get into the closet and start pulling movies and puzzles off the shelves. We have hook locks on all closet doors now just for them.

The basket on the top has a first aid kit, extra medicine, bandages, and sunscreen and next to it is a heating pad and a "to go" first aid kit. Also, the movies on this side of the closet are the grown-up movies. Not necessarily that the kids can't watch them (although John has a few of those), but that they probably wouldn't be interested in them. Miss Fabulous DOES like a little Thoroughly Modern Millie and 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. Something I find interesting, look at the colors in the picture above. Top shelf (John's movies) is mostly black or dark colors...sometimes with a little gold or silver mixed in, then next shelf (John and I movies) is still darker colors but with some brights, the next shelf (my girly movies) are pale colors, and the bottom shelf (more family movies) are all bright colors. Interesting. Or maybe I'm just a little odd. These shelves are all children and family movies. TV shows on the bottom, Disney on the next one, other animated on the next, and family on the next one. The top shelf is for church movies, seasonal shows, and borrowed movies.

Closet #2 This closet has been my toss-it-in cleaning supply closet. The majority of the cleaning supplies aren't even kept in this closet. Most of the detergents are kept where they are used. I want to keep them all in this closet, but it need several more shelves. In the meantime, it will look like this:

Beach towels in the top, bags holding the shop-vac parts, Shark pads and steam conversion part, and cleaning rags and dust wand.I did put SOME of the bathroom cleaning supplies and extras in this closet. It cleared out some much needed space in the bathroom closet. I also made room for the Shark too. The regular vacuum will still be kept in the movie closet (its too wide for this narrow space).

Closet #3 This is probably supposed to be just the linen closet. We have WAY too many games to not have a spot for them. They are a mess...yet another reason to have hook locks.

The linen half. We really need more space, but this is what we have to work with.

The games side after tossing out 2 games that were missing too many pieces, moving the puzzles to the movie closet, and putting 2 games in the sell pile. I also put all the card games into the black bin to keep them contained a little more. Not too bad. There are a few games that won't be played for a while...at least until Miss Fabulous gets a little older and she and I can play them. John isn't one for games unless they involve some kind of remote control. He will play these games if forced, but he doesn't relish losing. I usually win. The linen side looks much better. I changed out the blankets in the kids rooms, moved all of the beach towels into the narrow closet, and tossed some of the towels we've had since our wedding...11+ years ago. We still have some sheets that we don't have beds for...but we do have air mattresses that size. I'm contemplating moving those to our camping bin in the basement just because that is usually when they get used. That would also clear up a little more space.

I'm happy those closets are done (for now)! I'm also getting antsy for the rest of the house! It really does look terrible, but I'm excited to get it clean and organized!!!

You are doing AWESOME! I am very impressed! I may have to follow your lead towards the end of April!
Isn't it funny how practically nobody sees inside closets but to have them clean makes you feel so much better!
