Visiting Virginia
We had been planning for a while to visit our friends, the Storrers, in Virginia. We went over Labor day weekend and had a great time! It was nice to see familiar faces again and just hang out with great people!
While we were there, we went into D.C. to play tourist for the day. It was a beautiful day, right after Hurricane Earl rolled around the area. We rode the metro in and started at Arlington. We watched the Changing of the Guard, which Miss Fabulous proclaimed boring. I remember thinking the same thing when I was 9. I thought it was a lot quicker this time and more interesting since John used to do similar things with work.

You can see Miss Fabulous waiting with CK and Sheree on the steps. We were glad that it was a nice cool day and a beautiful morning.

As we walked through the cemetery, we noticed the graves of several children or entire families. We also noticed some of the headstones had rocks on the top and were told that in some cultures or religions a stone is placed on the top of the headstone every time the grave is visited. It was an interesting place. I probably could have wandered around for a while just reading headstones. About half way through the cemetery, MF asked if we were at the museum yet. I guess it works for walking as well as the car. After walking though Arlington, we hopped back on the metro and headed to the museums.

MF wanted to see the Air and Space museum. I'm not sure what she thought that was but she asked several times when she would see the Air. She did like the planes and looking through the side areas. I really liked the pictures of the planets and sun. I wondered if they had to take everything involving Pluto out after they decided it wasn't a planet after all.
We ate a quick lunch of PB&J (avoiding those horribly high food prices) and headed off to the Museum of Natural History.
On the way there, we saw this amazing tree sculpture shining in the sun. I was dazzled by it and took way more pictures of it than I really needed.
We loved looking at the stuffed animals. I learned a few things we didn't know about some of the animals. I watched part of a show about ocean currents. We wondered when the theory of evolution became fact and ended up in such a museum. We fought the crowd to see a diamond that, to me, wasn't worth the fight. This is also where we learned of John's family's accident...which is another story. Not long after, we decided we had had enough of the crowds and headed back to the metro and back to the Storrer's house.
We will be going back to D.C. sometime in the future. I would have liked to look at the Art museum and taken MF to see the Lincoln Memorial. A BIG thank you to the Storrers for letting us crash at their house and eat them out of house and home. Thank You!
