Tick tock, tick tock
Time just gets away from me all the time any more. This blog is really starting to resemble my journal. The last time I wrote in my Journal was last month and the time before that, sometime in May. I HAVE gotten quite a bit done, but still feel overloaded all the time. The biggest news and accomplishment:
I got my blog book done!!! This is a compilation of this blog from its beginning through June of this year. It was a vast undertaking.
In June, I came across a groupon that was "pay $20 get $45 off one order on blurb.com" and since that was the website I was going to go through anyway, I went ahead and got it. It wasn't until I had spent some hours on and off for 2 months working on it, that I noticed it had an expiration date. Of September 30, 2011. Oh goodness. I knew John was going to be gone to school for a couple of weeks in the middle of September and I was quickly running out of time. Those were some stressful days! I got it completely finished and loaded to blurb on September 29th! I opted for the less expensive (ahem...slower) shipping since the book cost plenty already and set out to wait 2 weeks for it!
It arrived 7 days later! I was so surprised and excited! I love this and Miss Fabulous is loving it too! She's been reading it ever since. I doubt she really knew what this blog was/is. She knows its here, but she's never read it. Now she can! I wish they weren't so expensive...I'd totally buy one for each of the kids and for the extended families too.
So besides the book, there were a couple of baby showers too (right in the middle of John being gone!). Of course I can't just go buy something! For the first baby shower I made this:
In case you aren't sure what you are looking at, its a cover for the car seat. It helps keep the elements off the baby. It also keeps some of the cold out! It gets pretty cold here and its that wet cold that goes through everything. Hopefully this helps!
Here's another picture. I made it with three different fabrics (a corduroy on the edges for weight, a soft flannel for the inside, and a bright cotton for the outside). I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Not bad for my first one and without a pattern!
I also made this to go with it but didn't get it completely done before the shower. Its still here (a month later) at my house waiting to go to its new home. I promise it will be there ready for that new little girl...in January.
Just a close up. I love the 3 different fabrics! The buggy fabric is flannel and I've been saving it for ages! The minky I was also saving, but after not using it for my last two babies, I figured I had better use it and let a baby snuggle up in it! I really am a fabric hoarder. The trim fabric I bought for a specific purpose recently but it just seemed to suit this blanket so I used it...shocker, I know!
Then, four days later, I had another baby shower. For this one, I made the cake:
It was a "Baby Bee" theme. They went with more pale colors (pale yellow and light gray) and I had fun playing with cake and fondant. I make my own fondant anymore, using marshmallows, powdered sugar and a tiny bit of water. It turns out tasty (so I'm told...not really a marshmallow fan here) and I don't have to worry about running out. I can always make more and it refrigerates nicely.
It was a lemon cake with lemon pudding between the 3 layers and a strawberry whipped cream frosting under the fondant. It took me a while to complete it, but I'm pleased with how it turned out and I think the mom liked it too.
I bought a light weight gauze-type blanket to go with this little blanket I made. I figured it would be nice to have something to swaddle the new baby boy in as well as keep him warm with this one. I love how the colors turned out. Not too baby-ish and she has a theme of sea creatures for her new boy's room. If you look closely the cotton prints are frogs, starfish, waves, octopus, fish, and sea weed...with a little argyle mixed in. I may have to make something like it for Dash, I like it so much!
I ran out of my stash of minky so I did a border of cute swimming frogs on two sides. Dash LOVES soft things, so I might have to go get some more minky to make a blanket for him.

So that's what I've been up to. There is quite a lot more besides the crafty stuff going on, but that's going to have to wait for another post or ten.
