Camping

While we were in Utah, the girls and I went camping with some of my siblings. We got there early enough to get a nice spot and get set up and dinner made before it got dark. It was pretty chilly up there but that wasn't nearly as bad as the mosquitoes! They were horrible. We went through a can of bug spray in no time and they were just so thick! Even the camp fire didn't deter those buggers!

The little girls just wanted to wander. I would have been up for chasing them all over if I wasn't trying to keep from swallowing mosquitoes and keep them from biting the kids and myself.
We slept in the camp trailer (it had a heater), but I hadn't thought to bring enough warm clothes or blankets so I still froze and worried about the kids being too cold...especially with MF shivering in her sleep. Star is not an easy little person to sleep with either. She kicks HARD!

The next morning Star waited patiently for her breakfast. I was amazed at how she just stood there and watched her Uncle Ed cook breakfast and didn't make a peep.

Unfortunately the mosquitoes were just as bad in the morning.

Like the bite in the middle of my forehead? I'm surprised the rest of them weren't as visible. Those darn bugs were biting through my jeans too!

Star tripped and got a mouth full of dirt! Poor girl!

Aunt Joanna knows how to make the girls smile and giggle though! Even though it was still pretty early, they sang at the top of their lungs!

We ate our breakfast and then headed back down the mountain. Jeremy, Joanna, and Laura and Ed (along with Rose!) stayed another night and enjoyed the mosquitoes and the company of each other. I guess I'm too much of a wimp! I LOVE camping. I DO NOT like eating bugs and worrying about the swarms around my kids! Ah well, another time maybe! Thanks to Laura and Ed for arranging it all and taking care of us!

Reverting Back

Summer Fade

 Summer is drawing to an end. We have traveled to AZ and UT. Played far too many video games and watched entirely too much TV. Workbooks were provided by myself with incentive to anyone who finished would get a large prize...no takers. No mom school this year...that may be a thing of the past with all these kids growing up.  John announced his retirement for next year and we are on the hunt for a place to finally settle into for next year. Nearer to family sounds great. New England has a lot to offer too. Our money will stretch a lot farther in a LCOL area like Iowa or Ohio. We do love being near the ocean or water and did love Alaska. This is going to be harder than I thought. The kids are going back to school and, since we live in SoCal now, we will continue to experience summer. I'm still not sure what MissFab is doing this year. Star started her Sophomore year of high school and she is nearly a week in. Nearly 5 weeks...

I've been told I need to update the blog so here are several pictures of little Star. She is now just over 11 lbs. and just shy of 23" long. She is just a bit big. Miss Fabulous was nearly 4 months old before she got as big as our Star! She is fun and really cuddly. She really loves to eat (thus the big size!) and sleep but seems to be wanting to be on the move. John has dubbed her "Scooter" because she is never where we put her. She rolled over from her back to her tummy the other day! Still not great at night...sometime she just wants to be awake, but last night she slept 7 hours straight and I'm hoping its the beginning of a trend! Miss Fabulous just LOVES her little sister and is always trying to help. MF is doing a little better in school with a lot of help from her teacher and some from us at home. We are starting her in a program at school where they help children deal with transition, which seems to be the biggest part of her problem. The progr...
