Birthday Time!
I've been a bit of a birthday Scrooge this year. I just haven't felt like celebrating. I don't really care that we are getting older, so that's not it. I think maybe I've been a little pre-occupied by the baby and all the things I still need to get done.
When John's birthday came, I DID make a cake and we went out to dinner as a family. The girls were on their non-best behavior and by the time we were done, I was waiting for applause from the people around us because we were finally leaving. After we got home and put the girls to bed, John and I had cake and I handed over a couple of unwrapped gift cards and favorite candies...just about all I could muster up this year.
I did not expect much for my birthday since I just really didn't care. John let me know that he got a babysitter and that we'd go out to dinner. He ended up taking me to get a pedicure and then to a Hibachi Grill. We had been to a famous one years ago and enjoyed ourselves, but this was amazingly better!
This place had two different areas - General dining and Hibachi. We had been there a couple of times for a sushi roll or two. The above is the dragon roll we got for an appetizer. I love this! The pictures are a little blurry and dark...all we had was John's phone.

I'm not sure why Blogger is refusing to put this picture in as I want it. The plates were huge and the guy was very good at his job! I'm not usually a fan of fried rice, but the rice was SO good and so were the noodles! After he was done cooking, the hibachi grill guy asked if we wanted to catch zucchini in our mouths. I have never been good at that sort of thing, but John was game! He still tossed a piece at me which went WAY over my head. John went next and caught his piece. The man told him to open his mouth so John did and the man squirted some clear liquid in his mouth and said "SAKE!". I just started laughing while John held it in his mouth and tried not to swallow. I told the man that we do not drink alcohol and he handed John a bowl to spit it out. We all had a good laugh over it and John whispered to me that it tasted really good. I think he'd have had a whole glass of it if he could!
It was a very nice dinner out and the girls had fun with the sitter. We took her her favorite sushi roll as payment, which she loved. Star was already asleep in her beanbag chair and Miss Fabulous ran off to bed as soon as we got home! I couldn't have asked for a better evening! Thank you John and girls for making my birthday!
